Debbie Cartsos

Debbie Despina Cartsos is an ATS®/Tribal belly dance soloist, an active member of Manhattan Tribal, directed by Mimi Fontana, and Queen Hydra, directed by Irina Bellyrina.  She is also the owner/designer of dance-based clothing company D.Webb Designs.

Born in Hollywood, Florida, Despina was introduced to belly dance at a very young age.  Her parents were involved in the Greek dance community, including her in many of their outings and, upon receiving her first belly dance costume at the age of five, she immediately started performing at every family gathering!  When she was ten, her family moved to Athens, Greece, where she was surrounded by family members playing music such as the classic Rembetika and Tsifteteli.  The love and passion she has for the art, music and dance she grew up with is what drove her to learn all she could about belly dance.  As an adult, in 2005, she began studying with Mimi Fontana and later became a founding member of Manhattan Tribal, New York’s premier ATS® troupe, under the direction of Ms. Fontana.  Since then, she has gone on to receive certifications from Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman of FatChanceBellyDance®, and in 2012 began studying with Irina Bellyrina, obtaining her Level 1 certification in the Jamila Salimpour format in 2014.  In 2015, she was fortunate to receive her ATS® Teacher Training at the very first American Tribal Style® Homecoming, and also achieved Sister Studio status from Fat Chance Belly Dance®
